Autumn/Winter Pantone Trends

This season’s colours are quite different from what we saw in the last one with a lot of pastel colours. Light pink and light blue were the colours every interior designer got their hands on. There are three words which come to our minds when looking at this year’s Autumn / Winter Pantone colour trends: strength, confidence and complexity! This new trend is led by the blue family. Along with anchoring earth tones and lively pops of vibrant colours appearing throughout the collection.

If you’d like to give your home a splash of colour to overcome the grey days, the new colours will be your best friend this fall. Bodacious, spicy mustard, potters clay, aurora red, sharkskin, riverside, lush meadow, warm taupe, airy blue and dusty cedar – a mix of warm tones. Each colour has its own kind of vibe, transforming those plain, boring, white walls into a cosy Autumn home.

The Scandinavian style is still very popular and became a real classic in interior decoration.Though if we’re being honest, it’s too cool for the long Winter days, where you just need a bit of cosiness and warmth when you get home from work. When you’re spending most of your days at home anyway, there’s no better feeling than having a home you’re happy with.

How to implement the colours in your home?

The ten colours are each quite special in their own way. Therefore, we advise you to mix them with neutral colours, such as white or black. For the lovers of very colourful decoration, spicy mustard will be the perfect match to bodacious or potters clay. If you like it a little more subtle, you can combine warm taupe and dusty cedar as both are quite neutral tones. Sharkskin is a light grey tone, which would work well with more vibrant colours like riverside, airy blue or even aurora red.

Enough talking, we’ve collected some inspirational pictures for each one of the ten Autumn / Winter Pantone colours to give you an idea of how they would look and how to implement them for your home.

Honeymoon Trip to the Maldives & Dubai

Honeymoon Trip to the Maldives & Dubai

I recently got back from my two-week honeymoon in the Maldives and Dubai and I would love to tell you all about it and share some images from my trip!

Now, this is a trip I have been looking forward to for over a year! I got married to my (now) wife of 5 years at the beginning of September and to say the planning was a joint effort would be a little bit of an overstatement as I had literally done absolutely nothing. Stone and Wood Shop keeps me an extremely busy boy so planning a wedding and running a business was never going to be a reality. However, I did have a chance to plan and book our dream honeymoon (to make up for the fact she did all the planning!) and we set off on the Wednesday after the wedding for our two-week break.

We flew out from Gatwick airport in the afternoon and began our journey to Dubai and then connected onto the Male airport in the Maldives, where after a very groggy night flight, we were met by a very attentive chap from the hotel who boarded us onto our boat to the island where we would be spending the next eight nights. Upon arriving, we were blown away by the sheer beauty of the surrounding islands and reefs. After checking into our beachfront hut, we took a leisurely stroll around the entire island, which only took 20 minutes. Living in London, you very easily get distracted by the hustle and bustle of it all, so being plucked out of it for a while makes you appreciate there’s a world out there waiting to be explored. For our entire stay, we were constantly surprised by the service from the amazing locals, the food and the scenery (even when it rained)! I also managed to start up a video blog when the missus wasn’t looking but that’s for another time.

After an exhausting 8 nights of not doing much, it was time to head to Dubai mid-morning for the final leg of our trip and I must say, it being my first time, Dubai is something you all have to see even if it’s not your cup of tea. A city, which has been built from the sand in the space of 30 years, is a marvel of engineering and planning. Being in the construction game for as long as I have really highlighted the speed at which they’re building and developing. In sheer difference to the Maldives, Dubai is all about the show and how big you can do it, from the buildings to the cars, from clothing brands to food, it has absolutely everything a billionaire playboy (or girl) needs to live the most opulent lifestyle… a far cry from what we could afford but still worth a look. We enjoyed afternoon tea at the Burj Al Arab, the Souk in the old city as well as the newer ones and finished off the trip with a visit up the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, as well as enjoying one of my favourite past times of smoking shisha and eating cake!

I have to say this trip really was a once in a lifetime holiday and one I don’t think I’ll be doing for a very, very, very long time, it’s a good thing I’ve got lots of pictures to remind me… some of which I would love to share with you.

Classic Brushed & Chipped Edge Travertine

By | Posted in: Uncategorized |

Classic Brushed & Chipped Edge Travertine

When we think about travertine, this is the first tile that springs to mind. The Classic Brushed & Chipped Edge travertine has a unique type of manufacture, which is why we love this stone. The surface of the stone is created using diamond-tipped brushes, which gives it a dimpled texture. The brushes also mildly polish this travertine floor tile, giving it a soft satin finish. With beautiful chipped edges and warm beige to light cream colours, this tile finishes off its stunning antique look perfectly.

What makes this stone even more special to us is that it is available in one of my favourite sizes; the Opus Pattern. The Opus Pattern is a selection of four different sizes in each pack. One of our customers has kindly sent us a picture of their floor, which is laid with our Classic Brushed & Chipped Edge Opus Pattern.

We can proudly say that our customer has laid the tiles perfectly, you could not ask for a better job! This type of travertine works flawlessly with the opus pattern, it is a match made in heaven. This image really gives you an insight of how the variation of colours, opus pattern and rustic finish combine to achieve this perfect project.

5 Ways to Change Your Home into a Holiday Destination

By | Posted in: Guides, News, Uncategorized |

Some of us are staying at home this Summer because of work or other responsibilities. Let’s be honest, Summer in England is really not the best with all the patchy spells of weather. One day it rains, the next day it’s 26 degrees and sunny. You can’t plan ahead and 90% of the time it rains unexpectedly. But what can we do? Well, we came up with a great idea! Why not bring the tropical holiday destination you’re dreaming of to your home? It’s easier than you think and you don’t have to change your whole interior either. There are so many different ways to redecorate your home and give it more of a tropical feel. Adding smaller items like carpet, curtains, pillows, pictures and bedding to your home would be a start. In this issue, we’ll show you how to make the most of the rare Summer days in England!

Here are 7 ways to transform your home into a holiday destination for you and your family:

  1. Add some tropical plants:

If you’re looking for the easier option, then we’d advise you to buy some small plants such as Palm Trees, Fern, Bromeliads, Orchids or even some Bamboo. Plants will freshen up your home and make it feel more lively and comfortable.

  2. Colour scheme:

Which colours remind you of a sunny holiday on a tropical island? Opt for colour schemes such as light shades of brown, white, blue and green and if you like shiny items, then add some gold or copper to it.

  3. Holiday accessories:

We recommend some easy-to-add items such as pictures of exotic holiday destinations, seagrass carpet, lamps and pillows with animal or floral prints. Even shower curtains or bedding with an attractive palm tree print would be a great addition too. Wooden accessories are great too! If you don’t have any outdoor furniture for your balcony or garden at the moment, we do recommend rattan furniture, they match up with and compliment most themes for your home.

  4. Sunlight:

Make sure enough light is coming into your home for the authenticity of the theme. Remove any dark curtains and you’ll see the difference straight away. As most people would say, sunshine brightens up your mood!

  5. Cocktails, Fruits & Music:

Finally to round up the holiday mood, put some good music on, get yourself some tropical fruits and make yourself a well deserved Pina Colada after all this decorating!

Shades of Grey

By | Posted in: Uncategorized |

One of my favourite colours right now has to be grey, whether it is a light grey or dark grey, you can find many of these majestic colours within our wide range of tiles. A main reason why I love the colour is due to the fact that it compliments a room so stunningly, as it goes with many colours. Whether your room is made up of light or dark colours, grey will surely be a perfect match.

When it comes to different shades of grey, there are three beautiful natural stones that come to mind.

London Grey Tumbled Limestone

London Grey Tumbled Limestone 1

I simply cannot get over how magnificent this stone truly is, the fossilisation and crystallisation brings out the various stunning grey shades within this stone. With a gorgeous rustic tumbled finish. This stone’s look and finish compliments any project, whether it’s your bathroom, kitchen or even outdoor patio. Without a doubt this is definitely my favourite Limestone at the moment!

Silver Royale Polished Marble

Silver Royale Polished Marble 1

The more I look at this stone, the more I fall in love with it! If a customer asked for a tile, which includes different shades of grey, then this is the stone I would recommend. This Marble includes light, medium and dark shades of grey with a polished finish, which combines perfectly with the different blends of grey. The polished finish is perfect for this Marble tile as the various shades of grey are flaunted extraordinarily.

Silver Royale Brushed & Sandblasted Marble

Silver Royale Brushed & Sandblasted Marble 1

This Marble stone consists of lighter shades of grey and a more rough texture. The contrast of pale greys work beautifully with the sandblasted and brushed look this unique Marble holds. I have to admit, I’ve never seen anything like this type of stone before, excuse the pun but it literally blasted me away!

Mixed Grey Natural Stone 3
