New Year, new interior?

We’re well into the new year now as of the end of January and the first month went by in no time. A new year always brings new interior trend predictions with it and we’re showing you the trends that’ll into the stores this year. With that being said, we think it’s good to have a fresh start to the year and maybe redecorate the home. Just keep in mind, you don’t have to change your entire home to make it look like a magazine spread. Keep your personal note to it and just add some bits and bobs.

How to mix patterns?

This year it’s all about patterns and mixing them up in unusual combinations. To find the perfect match, it is easier to work with monochromic and neutral backgrounds, so that the full attention is drawn to the actual pattern. It’ll simply stand out more. Different patterns don’t mean you have to go all out in colour either, different patterns in the same colour scheme will make a room look interesting and elegant. See the picture below as an example. The monochrome look is well applied. They stayed within the colour scheme but used different patterns to add a touch of sophistication and style. We are all for stripes, leopard print and floral patterns as they’re just fun to try out new combinations and colour matches.

It’s usually all about pillows, rugs, sofas and wall paintings but patterned tiles are just as much an upcoming trend. New trends invite to rethink the choice of tiles you’ve made 10 years ago for your bathroom or the old kitchen flooring you can’t even look at anymore. It’s time for a change and if you have a look at our website, we have a variety of tiles on our website to pick from.

Let us know which one is your favourite! Comment below.

Overall Impression of the Stone Flooring by The Gilmours

As first-time buyers we are really excited about furnishing and designing our perfect home.

What’s really important to us is high-quality flooring throughout our house to really make it a home, that’s why we have scoured the internet and many stores in order to find exactly what we’re looking for.

Buying from the internet can sometimes be worrying; you can’t always guarantee that the product you’re ordering is going to arrive exactly the way it was pictured on the website. This is the very reason why ordering samples is often vital, it gives you a feel for the products appearance, quality, and style, as well as giving you the chance to experience the quality of the companies service and delivery time.

Ordering our samples from Stone And Wood Shop was really quick and easy, their website is clear and concise; so you know exactly what you’re looking for.

Their range of flooring varies from engineered oak flooring, to ample amounts of tiles; Porcelain, Marble, Mosaic, Travertine, and Limestone! The choices are endless however we knew what we were looking for, and so when we saw that you can choose up to 3 FREE samples, we were immediately adding them to our basket.

Stone Flooring

We chose London Grey Tumbled limestone, a matte stone with very natural specks of grey running throughout.

Silver Royale Polished Marble, a very smooth and shiny stone, that is mostly warm taupe with silvers and whites running through it,

and lastly: Silver Shadow Polished Marble, again, smooth and shiny, mostly white and cool greys.

My overall impression of the stone flooring that I have received is that they’re great quality, heavy and durable. With beautiful markings in each stone, it makes every flooring type different and individual. The samples definitely live up to their standard; they look exactly like their photos and descriptions, (no cat-fishing going on with Stone And Wood Shop!)

What tops my experience with S.A.W.S is their quick delivery (I received my samples only 2 days later) The tiles are packaged individually in bubble wrap material, keeping them secure and to prevent them from chipping in the delivery process. The customer service is superb, so you can’t go wrong!

A great tip for when you have finally found your perfect flooring with Stone And Wood Shop, instead of wasting your beautiful samples, use them as coasters for plant pots, candles, or any household – garden items!

2016 – A Year of Surprises

Since joining the marketing team at Stone and Wood Shop early this year, global events have taken quite a few surprising turns, to say the least.

Things haven’t been slow at Stone and Wood Shop either! Monitoring the varying trends in wood and stone selection over the past year has been a fascinating experience. The first half of the year saw a strong interest in engineered wood flooring and highly polished marbles and travertines, and the latter half saw a surge of interest in tumbled and antiqued finishes in our travertine and limestone ranges (below image is Farley Grey Antiqued).

The constant introduction of new and exciting products, along with our steadily increasing customer base means that 2017 is looking to be a busy year for the whole Stone and Wood Shop team.

I’d like to thank my colleagues and all of the fantastic customers I’ve met this year at Stone and Wood Shop and I’m looking forward to another great year.

Best wishes to everyone this Holiday Season!

A Weekend In Slovenia

A Weekend In Slovenia

I recently had the chance to visit Slovenia, both for business and pleasure. We stayed in the beautiful city of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia and for those who don’t know, it’s filled with history and culture. With this in mind, it is also a very young city with plenty of nightlife and has one of the country’s largest universities. On our first day, we arrived late afternoon on the Sunday, it was the most beautiful day in sight. In contrast, the next day took a turn for the worst, you could really feel the temperature drop! In fact, it dropped to a low 4 degrees which meant that the pictures showed a very dull city overall, which was a shame! Nonetheless, after speaking with some of the locals we realised how proud they were of their history and culture, regardless of the weather.

My favourite part of the city was along the canal, it was always busy regardless of the low temperature. It seems that it’s the culture of the nation to spend as much time outside as possible. All of the restaurants and cafes I came across, provided people with blankets to sit outside with. It certainly was nippy outside, but the amazing views made it well worthwhile!

Ljubljana Old Town

Did you know, Ljubljana Old Town is classed as an island by the locals. All down to the fact that, there’s a river on one side and a canal on the other, all linked together by three bridges for which they are very fond of. I must say the canal is full of lovely places to eat and drink, it has the most beautiful views and a cosmopolitan atmosphere about it. If you look up from the town, the Ljubljana Castle overlooks the whole of the city and just adds to the history and the culture even more.

Ljubljana Old Town is paved with lots of local attractions and statues that sit in the very quant streets that are laid with the most beautiful tiles and paving. Which, to this day, they still repair in the old fashioned way, with no industrial tools whatsoever. As mentioned previously, the old town is overlooked by the Ljubljana Castle, an impressive landmark towering over the city to keep guard. The castle stands at an astonishing 375 metres in height, located on a hill.

Different To London

The city is based around a square, the local post office and town hall are very traditional buildings based within the square and very much shows the history of the area. Not to be fooled by this, it is a very affluent area surrounded by lots of designer stores and fancy restaurants. Noticeably, the pathways were all paved with small stone blocks, famously laid by hand in most parts of the city. It appears that every where we looked, people were riding bikes and to our surprise, there were only limited areas within the city which cars were allowed to access. Very different to London!

The whole trip was just another amazing experience and eye-opener, from the locals to their culture and landmarks, it’s definitely a city I would return to in the warmer months for sure!
